706bb1d0c7 Fix recent FFmpeg deprecations
This includes codec/muxer/demuxer iteration (different iteration

AVFormatContext.filename to url (plus making it a malloced string).

Libav doesn't have the new API yet, so it will break. I hope they will

20cc22437e demux_lavf: work around another aspect of libavformat garbage API
AV_DISPOSITION_ATTACHED_PIC usually means the video track isn't real,
and merely reflects the presence of an embedded image in tag data (such
as ID3v2 tags), with some inconsistent hack to make libavformat return
it as video packet once.

Except it doesn't mean that. It can be randomly set on other streams
that do sort of behave like video streams, such as chapter thumbnail
tracks in mp4 files. AV_DISPOSITION_TIMED_THUMBNAILS is set in these
cases. In theory, there can supposedly be more such cases, but only the
chapter thumbnail one currently exists. So add it as exception.

This restores displaying these thumbnails as video frames, for better or
worse. (Before, only the first thumbnail was displayed.)

ef324e1316 demux_lavf: export correct seekability state for HLS live streams
Requires newest FFmpeg git, which has a change that makes the HLS
demuxer set an AVFMTCTX_UNSEEKABLE flag if seeking is not available,
which is the case for HLS live streams. This should make the player
frontend behave pretty well, instead of crapping up irrecoverably.

video: warn user against FFmpeg's lies
I found that at least for mjpeg streams, FFmpeg will set packet pts/dts
anyway. The mjpeg raw video demuxer (along with some other raw formats)
has a "framerate" demuxer option which defaults to 25, so all mjpeg
streams will be played at 25 FPS by default.

mpv doesn't like this much. If AVFMT_NOTIMESTAMPS is set, it prints a
warning, that might print a bogus FPS value for the assumed framerate.
The code was originally written with the assumption that FFmpeg would
not set pts/dts for such formats, but since it does, the printed
estimated framerate will never be used. --fps will also not be used by
default in this situation.

To make this hopefully less confusing, explicitly state the situation
when the AVFMT_NOTIMESTAMPS flag is set, and give instructions how to
work it around.

Also, remove the warning in dec_video.c. We don't know what FPS it's
going to assume anyway. If there are really no timestamps in the stream,
it will trigger our normal missing pts workaround. Add the assumed FPS
there.

In theory, we could just clear packet timestamps if AVFMT_NOTIMESTAMPS
is set, and make up our own timestamps. That is non-trivial for advanced
video codecs like h264, so I'm not going there. For seeking and
buffering estimation the situation thus remains half-broken.

This is a mitigation for #5419.

41243e7c4f demux_lavf: always give libavformat the filename when probing
This gives the filename or URL to the libavformat probing logic, which
might use the file extension as a "help" to decide which format the file
is. This helps with mp3 files that have large id3v2 tags and prevents
the idiotic ffmpeg probing logic to think that a mp3 file is amr.

(What we really want is knowing whether we _really_ need to feed more
data to libavformat to detect the format. And without having to pre-read
excessive amounts of data for relatively normal streams.)

dbd22f43be demux: drop redundant SEEK_BACKWARD flag
Seems like most code dealing with this was for setting it in redundant
cases. Now SEEK_BACKWARD is redundant, and SEEK_FORWARD is the odd one

Also fix that SEEK_FORWARD was not correctly unset in try_seek_cache().

In demux_mkv_seek(), make the arbitrary decision that a video stream is
not required for the subtitle prefetch logic to be active. We might want
subtitles with long duration even with audio only playback, or if the
file is used as external subtitle.

Similar purpose as f34e1a0dee.

Somehow this is much more natural too, and needs less code.

This breaks runtime updates to duration. This could easily be fixed, but

cd019ba602 demux_lavf: change license to LGPL (almost)
Since this demuxer is based on code by michael, this file can become
LGPL only once the mpv core becomes LGPL, and this is preparation for
it.

There were quite a lot of changes for rearranging preferred libavformat
vs. internal MPlayer demuxers, codec mappings, and filename extensions,
but all this got removed, so some of the relevant authors weren't asked.

cehoyos, who disagreed with LGPL, made a few changes in the past (mostly
codec mapping and deinterlacing related things), but all of them were
removed, mostly due to libavformat API cleanups.

adland, who could not be reached, did commit 057916ee65, but it's easy
to essentially revert the change (this is what the source changes in
this commit do), so we don't need to think about it.

Chris Welton, who could not be reached, made a simple change in commit
958c41d9b6. Fortunately, the API changed again, and his changes were
removed, so we don't need to think about this either.

There is an anonymous contribution in commit 085f35f4b4 - since this
did not introduce any original code, and the probe code was heavily
rewritten multiple times, I don't consider it relevant.

4e663566dd demux_lavf: by default probe info for HLS again
This switches back the --demuxer-lavf-probe-info default for HLS from

Apparently the old default caused problems with the FFmpeg MediaCodec

make any sense as MediaCodec takes in Annex B formatted h264 data), or
something else. Reportedly, enabling probing fixes it though, so enable
it again.

b86a2316df demux_lavf: "support" mov edit lists and log errors if used
FFmpeg recently got "support" for mov edit lists. This is a terrible
hack that will fail completely at least with some decoders (in
particular wrappers for hardware decoding might be affected). As such it
makes no point to pretend they are supported, even if we assume that the
"intended" functionality works, that there are no implementation bugs
(good luck with all that messy code added to the already huge mov
demuxer), and that it covers enough of the mov edit list feature to be
of value.

So log an error if the FFmpeg code for mov edit lists appears to be
active - AV_PKT_FLAG_DISCARD is used only for "clipping" edit list
segments on non-key frame boundaries.

In the first place, FFmpeg committed this only because Google wanted it
in, and patch review did not even pick up obvious issues. (Just look how
there was no lavc version bump when AV_PKT_FLAG_DISCARD was added.)

We still pass the new packet flag to the decoders (av_common.c change),
which means we "support" FFmpeg's edit list code now. (Until it breaks
due to FFmpeg not caring about all the details.)

d4d8b3a4fc demux: do not access global options
Don't access MPOpts directly, and always use the new m_config.h
functions for accessing them in a thread-safe way.

The goal is eventually removing the mpv_global.opts field, and the
demuxer/stream-layer specific hack that copies MPOpts to deal with
thread-safety issues.

This moves around a lot of options. For one, we often change the
physical storage location of options to make them more localized,
but these changes are not user-visible (or should not be). For
shared options on the other hand it's better to do messy direct
access, which is worrying as in that somehow renaming an option
or changing its type would break code reading them manually,
without causing a compilation error.

bc97d60542 demux: close underlying stream if it's fully read anyway
This is for text subtitles. libavformat currently always reads text
subtitles completely on init. This means the underlying stream is
useless and will consume resources for various reasons (network
connection, file handles, cache memory).

Take care of this by closing the underlying stream if we think the
demuxer has read everything. Since libavformat doesn't export whether it
did (or whether it may access the stream again in the future), we rely
on a whitelist. Also, instead of setting the stream to NULL or so, set
it to an empty dummy stream. This way we don't have to litter the code
with NULL checks.

demux_lavf.c needs extra changes, because it tries to do clever things
for the sake of subtitle charset conversion.

The main reason we keep the demuxer etc. open is because we fell for
libavformat being so generic, and we tried to remove corresponding
special-cases in the higher-level player code. Some of this is forced
due to ass/srt mkv/mp4 demuxing being very similar to external text
files. In the future it might be better to do this in a more
straight-forward way, such as reading text subtitles into libass and
then discarding the demuxer entirely, but for aforementioned reasons
this could be more of a mess than the solution introduced by this
commit.

Probably fixes #3456.

05e4df3f0c video/audio: always provide "proper" timestamps to libavcodec
Instead of passing through double float timestamps opaquely, pass real
timestamps. Do so by always setting a valid timebase on the
AVCodecContext for audio and video decoding.

Specifically try not to round timestamps to a too coarse timebase, which
could round off small adjustments to timestamps (such as for start time
rebasing or demux_timeline). If the timebase is considered too coarse,
make it finer.

This gets rid of the need to do this specifically for some hardware
decoding wrapper. The old method of passing through double timestamps
was also a bit questionable. While libavcodec is not supposed to
interpret timestamps at all if no timebase is provided, it was
needlessly tricky. Also, it actually does compare them with
AV_NOPTS_VALUE. This change will probably also reduce confusion in the
future.

b9ba9a898a demux: add per-track metadata
...and ignore it. The main purpose is for retrieving per-track
replaygain tags. Other than that per-track tags are not used or accessed
by the playback core yet.

The demuxer infrastructure is still not really good with that whole
synchronization thing (at least in part due to being inherited from
mplayer's single-threaded architecture). A convoluted mechanism is
needed to transport the tags from demuxer thread to user thread. Two
factors contribute to the complexity: tags can change during playback,
and tracks (i.e. struct sh_stream) are not duplicated per thread.

In particular, we update the way replaygain tags are retrieved. We first
try to use per-track tags (common in Matroska) and global tags
(effectively formats like mp3). This part fixes #3405.

78bcbe289e demux: make refresh seek handling more generic
Remove the explicit whitelisting of formats for refresh seeks. Instead,
check whether the packet position is somewhat reliable during demuxing.
If there are packets without position, or the packet position is not
monotonically increasing, then do not use them for refresh seeks.

This does not make sure of some requirements, such as deterministic
seeks. If that happens, mpv will mess up a bit on stream switching.

Also, add another method that uses DTS to identify packets, and prefer
it to the packet position method. Even if there's a demuxer which
randomizes packet positions, it hardly can do that with DTS. The DTS
method is not always available either, though. Some formats do not have
a DTS, and others are not always strictly monotonic (possibly due to
libavformat codec parsing and timestamp determination issues).

92ba630796 demux: remove relative seeking
Ever since a change in mplayer2 or so, relative seeks were translated to
absolute seeks before sending them to the demuxer in most cases. The
only exception in current mpv is DVD seeking.

Remove the SEEK_ABSOLUTE flag; it's not the implied default. SEEK_FACTOR
is kept, because it's sometimes slightly useful for seeking in things
like transport streams. (And maybe mkv files without duration set?)

DVD seeking is terrible because DVD and libdvdnav are terrible, but
mostly because libdvdnav is terrible. libdvdnav does not expose seeking
with seek tables. (Although I know xbmc/kodi use an undocumented API
that is not declared in the headers by dladdr()ing it - I think the
function is dvdnav_jump_to_sector_by_time().) With the current mpv
policy if not giving a shit about DVD, just revert our half-working seek
hacks and always use dvdnav_time_search(). Relative seeking might get

a4cdf1a727 demux_lavf: fix charset conversion with UTF-16 subtitles
UTF-16 subtitles are special in that they are usually read by
libavformat directly, even though they are not in UTF-8. This is
explicitly handled convert_charset() and skips conversion to UTF-8.

There was a bug due to not resetting the file position: if conversion
happens, the actual stream is replaced with a memory stream containing
the converted data, but if conversion is skipped, the original stream
with the wrong file position is kept.

Fix by always opening a memory stream. (We _could_ seek back, but there
is a slight possibility of additional failure due to unseekable
streams.)

Also, don't enter conversion if the subtitle is detected as UTF-8
either.

using demuxer->stream. It also won't be possible to force the charset on
subtitles in binary container formats - but this wasn't exposed before,
and we just hope this won't be ever needed. (One motivation was fixing
broken files with non-UTF8 muxed.) It also won't be possible to change
the charset on the fly, but this was not exposed either.

f9ba1a3ddf demux: remove weird tripple-buffering for the sh_stream list
The demuxer infrastructure was originally single-threaded. To make it
suitable for multithreading (specifically, demuxing and decoding on
separate threads), some sort of tripple-buffering was introduced. There
are separate "struct demuxer" allocations. The demuxer thread sets the
state on d_thread. If anything changes, the state is copied to d_buffer
(the copy is protected by a lock), and the decoder thread is notified.
Then the decoder thread copies the state from d_buffer to d_user (again
while holding a lock). This avoids the need for locking in the
demuxer/decoder code itself (only demux.c needs an internal, "invisible"
lock.)

Remove the streams/num_streams fields from this tripple-buffering
schema. Move them to the internal struct, and protect them with the
internal lock. Use accessors for read access outside of demux.c.

Other than replacing all field accesses with accessors, this separates
allocating and adding sh_streams. This is needed to avoid race
conditions. Before this change, this was awkwardly handled by first
initializing the sh_stream, and then sending a stream change event. Now
the stream is allocated, then initialized, and then declared as
immutable and added (at which point it becomes visible to the decoder
thread immediately).

This change is useful for PR #2626. And eventually, we should probably
get entirely of the tripple buffering, and this makes a nice first step.

0a0bb9059f video: switch from using display aspect to sample aspect
MPlayer traditionally always used the display aspect ratio, e.g. 16:9,
while FFmpeg uses the sample (aka pixel) aspect ratio.

Both have a bunch of advantages and disadvantages. Actually, it seems
using sample aspect ratio is generally nicer. The main reason for the
change is making mpv closer to how FFmpeg works in order to make life
easier. It's also nice that everything uses integer fractions instead
of floats now (except --video-aspect option/property).

Note that there is at least 1 user-visible change: vf_dsize now does
not set the display size, only the display aspect ratio. This is
because the image_params d_w/d_h fields did not just set the display
aspect, but also the size (except in encoding mode).

Slightly simpler, and removes the need to pre-read all subtitle packets.

This still does the subtitle charset conversion on the packet level

this should be removed, as FFmpeg is somewhat likely to get its own
charset detection and conversion mechanism in the future. (Would have

d0fee0ac33 demux_lavf: use this for image formats
Use the (relatively new) libavformat image format probing functionality,
instead of letting demux_mf guess by file extension and MIME type.

The libavformat support is weird, though. Traditionally, it uses an
absolutely terrible hack to detect images by extension, _and_ (which is
the horrible part) will randomly interpret parts of the filename as
specifiers for matching by number. So something like '%03d' will be
interpreted as placeholder for a frame number. The worst part is that
such character sequences can be perfectly valid and common in http URLs.
This is known as "image2" demuxer. The newer support, which probes by
examining the file header, is split into several format-specific
demuxers with names ending in "_pipe". So we check for such a name
suffix. (At this point we're doing fine-grained hacking around ffmpeg
weirdness, so a clean solution is impossible anyway until upstream
changes.)

a64b1deaa6 demux_lavf: hack against hls showing "100%" position
The HLs protocol consists of a "playlist" main file, which mpv downloads
and passes to the HLS demuxer. The HLS demuxer actually requests segment
files containing media data on its own. The packets read from the
demuxer have a source file position set, but it's not from the main
file. This leads to a strange effect: as a last fallback, the player
will calculate the approximate playback position from the file
position/size ratio, and since the main file is tiny, this will always
show 100%. Fix this by resetting the packet file position.

This doesn't affect the case when HLS actually reports a duration.

f9f2e1cc4e demux: hack for instant stream switching
This removes the delay when switching audio tracks in mkv or mp4 files.
Other formats are not enabled, because it's not clear whether the
demuxers fulfill the requirements listed in demux.h. (Many formats
definitely do not with libavformat.)

Background:

The demuxer packet cache buffers a certain amount of packets. This
includes only packets from selected streams. We discard packets from
other streams for various reasons. This introduces a problem: switching
to a different audio track introduces a delay. The delay is as big as
the demuxer packet cache buffer, because while the file was read ahead
to fill the packet buffer, the process of reading packets also discarded
all packets from the previously not selected audio stream. Once the
remaining packet buffer has been played, new audio packets are available
and you hear audio again.

We could probably just not discard packets from unselected streams. But
this would require additional memory and CPU resources, and also it's
hard to tell when packets from unused streams should be discarded (we
don't want to keep them forever; it'd be a memory leak).

We could also issue a player hr-seek to the current playback position,
which would solve the problem in 1 line of code or so. But this can be
rather slow.

So what we do in this commit instead is: we just seek back to the
position where our current packet buffer starts, and start demuxing from
this position again. This way we can get the "past" packets for the
newly selected stream. For streams which were already selected the
packets are simply discarded until the previous position is reached
again.

That latter part is the hard part. We really want to skip packets
exactly until the position where we left off previously, or we will skip
packets or feed packets to the decoder twice. If we assume that the
demuxer is deterministic (returns exactly the same packets after a seek
to a previous position), then we can try to check whether it's the same
packet as the one at the end of the packet buffer. If it is, we know
that the packet after it is where we left off last time.

Unfortunately, this is not very robust, and maybe it can't be made
robust. Currently we use the demux_packet.pos field as unique packet
ID - which works fine in some scenarios, but will break in arbitrary
ways if the basic requirement to the demuxer (as listed in the demux.h
additions) are broken. Thus, this is enabled only for the internal mkv
demuxer and the libavformat mp4 demuxer.

(libavformat mkv does not work, because the packet positions are not
unique. Probably could be fixed upstream, but it's not clear whether
it's a bug or a feature.)

b0cb2977ed demux_lavf: bluray: don't skip stream data when flushing
This code meant to flush demuxer internal buffers by doing a byte seek
to the current position. In theory this shouldn't drop any stream data.
However, if the stream positions mismatch, then avio_seek() (called by
av_seek_frame()) stops being a no-op, and might for example read some
data to skip to the seek target. (This can happen if the distance is
less than SHORT_SEEK_THRESHOLD.)

The positions get out of sync because we drop data at one point (which
is what we _want_ to do). Strictly speaking, the AVIOContext flushing is
done incorrectly, becuase pb->pos points to the start of the buffer, not
the current position. So we have to increment pb->pos by the buffered
amount.

Since there are other weird reasons why the positions might go out of
sync (such as stream_dvd.c dropping buffers itself), and they don't
necessarily need to be in sync in the first place unless AVIOContext has
nothing buffered internally, just use the sledgehammer approach and
correct the position manually.

Also run av_seek_frame() after this. Currently, it shouldn't read
anything, but who knows how that might change with future libavformat
development.

This whole change didn't have any observable effect for me, but I'm
hoping it fixes a reported problem.

Mark the stream (which the demuxer uses) as not seekable. The cache can
enable seeking again (this behavior is sometimes useful for other
things). I think this should have had no bad influence in theory, since
seeking BD/DVD first does the "real" seek, then flushes libavformat and
reads new packets.

758f8f7bd4 demux: always use AVPacket
This is a simplification, because it lets us use the AVPacket
functions, instead of handling the details manually.

It also allows the libavcodec rawvideo decoder to use reference
counting, so it doesn't have to memcpy() the full image data. The change
in av_common.c enables this.

This change is somewhat risky, because we rely on the following AVPacket
implementation details and assumptions:
- av_packet_ref() doesn't access the input padding, and just copies the
data. By the API, AVPacket is always padded, and we violate this. The
lavc implementation would have to go out of its way to make this a
  real problem, though.
- We hope that the way we make the AVPacket refcountable in av_common.c
is actually supported API-usage. It's hard to tell whether it is.

Of course we still use our own "old" demux_packet struct, just so that
libav* API usage is somewhat isolated.

0dd5228626 demux_lavf: don't consider EAGAIN as EOF condition
This happens apparently randomly with rtmp:// and after seeks. This
eventually leads to audio decoding returning an EOF status, which
basically disables audio sync. This will lead to audio desync, even if
audio decoding later "recovers" when the demuxer actually returns audio
packets.

Hack-fix this by special-casing EAGAIN.

6856d81c68 stream: hack-fix rtmp-level seeking
This didn't work, because the timebase was wrong. According to the
ffmpeg doxygen, if the stream index is -1 (which is what we used), the
timebase is AV_TIME_BASE. But this didn't work, and it really expected
the stream's timebase. Quite "surprising", since this feature
(avio_seek_time) is used by rtmp only.

Fixing this properly is too hard, so hack-fix our way around it.
STREAM_CTRL_SEEK_TO_TIME is also used by DVD/BD, so a new
STREAM_CTRL_AVSEEK is added. We simply pass-through the request
verbatim.

1301a90761 demux: add a demuxer thread
This adds a thread to the demuxer which reads packets asynchronously.
It will do so until a configurable minimum packet queue size is
reached. (See options.rst additions.)

For now, the thread is disabled by default. There are some corner cases
that have to be fixed, such as fixing cache behavior with webradios.

Note that most interaction with the demuxer is still blocking, so if
e.g. network dies, the player will still freeze. But this change will
make it possible to remove most causes for freezing.

Most of the new code in demux.c actually consists of weird caches to
compensate for thread-safety issues (with the previously single-threaded
design), or to avoid blocking by having to wait on the demuxer thread.

Most of the changes in the player are due to the fact that we must not
access the source stream directly. the demuxer thread already accesses
it, and the stream stuff is not thread-safe.

For timeline stuff (like ordered chapters), we enable the thread for the
current segment only. We also clear its packet queue on seek, so that
the remaining (unconsumed) readahead buffer doesn't waste memory.

Keep in mind that insane subtitles (such as ASS typesetting muxed into
mkv files) will practically disable the readahead, because the total
queue size is considered when checking whether the minimum queue size
was reached.

Suggested by tholin on github issue #882.

This is not entirely clean, but the fields we're accessing might be

338004bcfc dvd, bluray, cdda: add demux_disc containing all related hacks
DVD and Bluray (and to some extent cdda) require awful hacks all over
the codebase to make them work. The main reason is that they act like
container, but are entirely implemented on the stream layer. The raw
mpeg data resulting from these streams must be "extended" with the
container-like metadata transported via STREAM_CTRLs. The result were
hacks all over demux.c and some higher-level parts.

Add a "disc" pseudo-demuxer, and move all these hacks and special-cases
to it.

a4d487f5b2 stream: don't use end_pos
Stop using it in most places, and prefer STREAM_CTRL_GET_SIZE. The
advantage is that always the correct size will be used. There can be no
doubt anymore whether the end_pos value is outdated (as it happens often
with files that are being downloaded).

Some streams still use end_pos. They don't change size, and it's easier
to emulate STREAM_CTRL_GET_SIZE using end_pos, instead of adding a
STREAM_CTRL_GET_SIZE implementation to these streams.

Make sure int64_t is always used for STREAM_CTRL_GET_SIZE (it was
uint64_t before).

Remove the seek flags mess, and replace them with a seekable flag. Every
stream must set it consistently now, and an assertion in stream.c checks
this. Don't distinguish between streams that can only be forward or
backwards seeked, since we have no such stream types.

e3c20bf350 stream: kill start_pos, remove --sb option
stream.start_pos was needed for optical media only, and (apparently) not
for very good reasons. Just get rid of it.

For stream_dvd, we don't need to do anything. Byte seeking was already
removed from it earlier.

For stream_cdda and stream_vcd, emulate the start_pos by offsetting the
stream pos as seen by the rest of mpv.

The bits in discnav.c and loadfile.c were for dealing with the code
seeking back to the start in demux.c. Handle this differently by
assuming the demuxer is always initialized with the stream at start
position, and instead seek back if initializing the demuxer fails.

Remove the --sb option, which worked by modifying stream.start_pos. If
someone really wants this option, it could be added back by creating a
"slice" stream (actually ffmpeg already has such a thing).

fb2e8387d4 demux_lavf: one more hack for mp3 from network
mp3 has a hack lowering the probescore for format detection. This is
because detecting mp3s is hard due to their nature, and the fact that
ID3v2 tags are sometimes several megabytes big.

When playing mp3 from network, the mime-type is usually set, and that
matches the format hack entry meant for webradios, overriding the normal
mp3 entry. This can lead to network mp3s not being detected. Lower the
network case to the same probescore as on-disk mp3s. The difference is
that for network mp3s, we don't load the full probe-buffer, and we lower
the amount of audio the demuxer will read to collect data on opening
(0.5 seconds instead of typically 5 seconds).
