README.IPv6 is quite useless because IPv6 is not a second
class citizen anymore. Most of the content is "obvious" or explained in
the manpage along with other details/options.
TODO.IPv6 is old and many implemented things are still reported there
for no clear reason. Delete file and report still open items in our
tracking system.

We used to ship git submodule instructions to build a local copy of
cmocka in vendor/cmocka/ and use that (if cmake is installed) to build
unit tests. With the network test driver this turns out to be a
LD_LIBRARY_PATH vs. SUDO complication which is really outweighing the
benefit of a local build today - so, use the system-wide installation
if available (querying pgk-config). Do not build unit-tests otherwise.
v2: (inspired by patch from David Sommerseth)
introduce "configure --disable-unit-test" switch
simplify configure.ac logic
use CMOCKA_LIBS and CMOCKA_INCLUDE (set by PKG_CHECK)
v3:
repair conflict with commit 7473f32636
CMOCKA_INCLUDE is not correct, must be CMOCKA_CFLAGS (see config.status)

Add a make target, such that 'make doxygen' works (both for in-tree and
out-of-tree builds). This now generates the doxygen in doc/doxygen/,
rather than in doxygen/.
While doing so, instead of genering docs with full path names (e.g.
/home/steffan/dev/openvpn/src/openvpn/crypto.h), use a relative path wrt
the project root (e.g. src/openvpn/crypto.h) in the generated
documentation. This makes the generated doxygen easier to read.

There were references in our documentation to the now deprecated PolarSSL
library, which have changed name upstream to mbed TLS.
In addition, where appropriate, the documentation now considers only
mbed TLS 2.0 and newer. This is in accordance with the requirements

cmocka [1,2] is a testing framework for C. Adding unit test
capabilities to the openvpn repository will greatly ease the
task of writing correct code.
cmocka source code is added as git submodule in ./vendor. A
submodule approach has been chosen over a classical library
dependency because libcmocka is not available, or only
available in very old versions (e.g. on Ubuntu).
cmocka is build during 'make check' and installed in vendor/dist/.

This removes the single 'git revision' line from the --version screen and
moves this information on the top, together with the OpenVPN version.
In addition this patch adds two git flags after the git committish. If
there exists changed but unstaged files when the build was done, a '+' is
appended after the committish. If there exists staged files (files which
have been added with 'git add') a '*' will be appended. These flags are
not exclusive.
This also simplifies the config-version.h generation by not using
sed parsing a template. It's just two lines which are generated, so
no need to complicate things more than needed.

Having the text auto detection is a risk, as the detection may detect
text files that are not text and vise versa.
Having global setting will create confusion and differentiate between
users. So this patch also move this to local repository.
Having git to check out files differently in different OS is also
a not correct, as checkouts may be used in shares or in *NIX emulation
environments, so it have no effect.
Another issue is packaging, if we change out the tree differently
in several OSes, we may have different package content, which is
something that should be avoided.
Currently any editor of MS supports LF end of lines, so there is no
need to convert source files while checking out.
The visual studio files should be stored as CRLF as they are generated
by visual studio every save, in a way that CRLF are added.
I handled only the files that may be touch by MS users.

This code was not activated at all, and hard coded as disabled in syshead.h
with this code snippet:
/*
* Pthread support is currently experimental (and quite unfinished).
*/
#if 1 /* JYFIXME -- if defined, disable pthread */
#undef USE_PTHREAD
#endif
So no matter if --enable-pthread when running ./configure or not, this feature
was never enabled in reality. Further, by removing the blocker code above made
OpenVPN uncompilable in the current state.
As the threading part needs to be completely rewritten and pthreading will not be
supported in OpenVPN 2.x, removing this code seems most reasonable.
In addition, a lot of mutex locking code was also removed, as they were practically
NOP functions, due to pthreading being forcefully disabled
